Dear
BSW and MSW students and faculty:
The
goal of this email is to inform students about domestic violence. First Step defines domestic violence as:
- A pattern of behaviors including physical, sexual, and emotional abuse used to gain control over another.
Domestic
Violence Facts
- Domestic violence affects 1 in 4 people, regardless of ethnicity, race, age, ability, class, religion, or sexual orientation.
- Every 15 seconds a woman is battered
- If you or anyone you know is in need of a safe place, or even a person to talk to about domestic violence please do not hesitate to call First Step’s 24 hour help line: 734-459-5900 or toll free: 1-888-453-5900.
You may notice students and faculty wearing a purple ribbon around campus this month. This ribbon acknowledges October as domestic violence awareness month. Please wear a purple ribbon during the month of October and help us promote awareness around domestic violence, and more specifically to:
- Mourn those who have died as a result of domestic violence
- Celebrate survivors
- Honor the changes achieved thus far
- Recognize you personal commitment to non-violence
Where can I get a purple ribbon?
Thursday October 27, 2:30-5:00
